Greenwich, CT | ARA was hired to design a comprehensive transformation of an elevated outdoor living space into a multi-tiered dining and entertaining terrace. The design integrates wood gates, fieldstone walls, white-washed brickwork, pea gravel, and bluestone steps and pavers. A substantial pergola of locally sourced black locust with a retractable sun-shade creates an intimate dining area. A separate bar area and outdoor kitchen with seating overlook the pool, providing additional gathering areas. Low raised planting beds at the perimeter of the terrace, built into the fieldstone walls, allow guardrails to be omitted, opening the terrace to the rear yard. Sebastian Trujillo, of In Situ Garden Design, was an integral part of the team and selected all plantings.
